May I ask what reason you have for not sending your children to North Cedar.

North Cedar does not have any water problems at this time and no flood will ever hit the school.

Distance from my daycare provider is why I will not send my child to North Cedar. It's clear across town and is not feasible for my family to drive my child from the south side of Cedar Falls to the northern most side twice a day.

My children will not be attending North Cedar due to the location and the fact that the facility has not been updated like other schools in CF. I want my children to be able to safely walk to school without having to deal with a busy roadway, a large bridge, and other dangerous situations in route.

So now you aren't sending your children to NC due to the flood. Will you at least help the North Cedar families as they try to rebuild. Surely you aren't above that are you?

No water entered North Cedar school though it did come very close. Please come to Holmes Jr High on Monday morning @ 7:45 am for a meeting to determine how to help the North Cedar families who had flooding and damage. I'm sure many of you volunteered with sandbagging and whatever you could do to help the city of Cedar Falls. Now do what you can to help families hurt by this horrible flooding.

My family and I will do all we can to assist all in need as the cleaning and rebuilding process begins. The flooding has nothing to do with my family's choice not to attend North Cedar.

Water touched one corner of the outside of North Cedar School, but it did not get inside.
As for people who would rather move or pay for private school than send their kids to North Cedar . . . all I can say is, I guess it's a good thing that your kids won't be going to school with mine. I wouldn't want my kids to pick up your values.

linnea, I am thankful that the school and preschool were unharmed.
As far as values, wanting the best opportunities possible for my children does not in any way constitute negative values...
The values that are skewed here belong to the school district. The BOE put the open-enrolled students' interests ahead of local families' interests, that is wrong - PERIOD!!!

Open enrolled students aren't getting any special treatment. My child is open enrolled and we just were notified last week she must move to another school. So the mis-perception that all open enrolled kids are getting whatever they want is ridiculous.
The problem is increasing enrollment EVERYWHERE in CF. Moving ANY children is not going to help this problem. This "fix" is a band-aid. They'll be right back here again in 3 years trying to figure out what to do because 5 out of the 6 schools will be at or over capacity before any open enrolled students. Obviously the CF elementary schools need to expand and add classrooms/shared spaces or they need to build another school if they want to fix this problem long-term.

guest123,
which school is your child being moved out of and which school is your child being moved into?
if your child is being moved into a school that a resident student is being moved out of, that is preferential treatment to an open enrolled student. period.

No. My child is being moved to North Cedar. So there is no resident student affected at all.

guest123,
will you be sending your child to north cedar or will you enroll your child back into your resident district? what is your resident district?
what school did your child go to last year?
not trying to be nosy, just trying to get the bigger picture.
thanks

We aren't 100% sure what we're doing. We're considering our options at this point for other schools. Our resident district is Hudson. Won't be going there. Our child has been attending Southdale since Kindergarten.
I inquired with the school board and was told the ONLY school my child could attend as of now in Cedar Falls was North Cedar. No other elementary school has room. (hard to believe) Slim chance once registration happens in August and they have "official numbers" that something could open up, but I can't wait until 2 weeks before school starts to decide where my child will be going. We're weighing our options.....
