Apply for an "inner-district transfer" back to the same school!

I was under the impression that Cedar Falls does not allow "inner-district" open enrollment. You may want to check on that. I believe that if you are a CF resident, you must send your child to the school that is considered to be their home school. If you don't want your child to go their home school, then you may apply for open enrollment outside of the district (such as Waterloo) or choose to send them to a private school. Would you take them out of the CF district b/c you truly believe they could get a better education elsewhere, or would you be moving them to "make a statement?" I am/will be affected by the board's decision. I believe in the Cedar Falls school district and ALL of the elementary schools within it! My question to some of you is are you making judgments based upon a building and it's location or the learning community that exists within those concrete walls and in "that" part of town? I'm choosing to base my decision on what I believe really matters!

First of all, I think GUEST was being sarcastic. No, I don't think they allow inter-district transfers generally although they will make special exception for certain circumstanses. Even among some of the best schools their are differences. The four walls play a part in learning. Studies show that a child's learning is affected by the condition of the building to some extent. I would never make decisions regarding my child's education just to make a statement. In this case, I will opt for private school because I think it will be in my child's best intrest.

We, too, will choose to send our child to private school if our area is moved in boundary changes. Our decision was made after consideration of numerous factors, and has absolutely nothing to do with "making a statement". I know other parents who are currently considering private school placement as a result of the potential boundary changes. To imply that any of these families are making such a difficult decision only to "make a statement" is ludicrous.
