just wondering what everyone's reaction to Monday night's board meeting is? And wondering if anyone has any predictions on what the board will do monday the 10th? I for one want to commend the CFKF organization for a job well done.

I believe the Board will for sure want to put a referredum up for all the upgrading the schools need, but I do not think they will move anyone Now. I read the article in the paper today in reguard to this very subject. Dr. Stoakes said that if the would choice to put a referredum up to vote, that could be 18-36Months down the road!!! Are you kidding me, it takes that long to put something to vote. What is wrong with are system. By the time we are able to vote alot of things could be changed in the district numbers
This whole process in very frustrating!!!

Cedar Falls is lucky to have such a strong school system. Our kids have spent time in 3 of the schools and we feel good about their experiences in all of them. However, even though other cities are rightfully envious of our schools, facilities, teachers, test results, etc., I am horrified to be part of a community that singles out the North Cedar school, neighborhood, teachers, families, and students as "undesirable".
We live in a neighborhood that will become part of North Cedar's area next school year. We have heard the horror stories about how our area will no longer have a "neighborhood school", and how our neighborhood will become less desirable and our property values will go down simply because of this change. Let's call this what it is: it's fear mongering by people who feel that North Cedar is not worthy of them or their kids.
I feel bad for the children who are being raised with these values. I feel bad for the children who go to the same school, whatever school it is, with the children that are being raised with these values.

There have been only two posts that i have seen on this site referring to north cedar in a negative way and both have been by "guest" accusing this site and the parents that are unhappy with the school board's decision of "fear mongering". the position here, as i have seen it, has been only to give cedar falls residents students a higher priority than open enrolled students. would north cedar parents be happy if some their students were bussed from their neighborhood to cedar heights to make room for open enrolled students at their school?

Dee makes a great point...it is not about North Cedar, it is about OPEN-ENROLLMENT.
When the "rubber hits the road," so-to-speak, NO MATTER WHERE YOU LIVE, if it came down to your child OR an open-enrolled child going to the neighborhood school, it SHOULD be the CF RESIDENT child attending FIRST, not the open-enrolled child.

CF has had increased enrollment for a long time, and will continue to over the upcoming years.
EVERY elementary school in CF has seen increasing enrollment for the last 8 years (some stayed stable for a couple years) but the majority INCREASED every year. For the last 8 YEARS. Except North Cedar. See a trend?
CF is going to continue to see increased enrollment. More houses and more families moving into CF. If anyone thinks altering open enrollment for a few years is going to solve the enrollment problem and stop houses from being built in south CF, then they're clueless.
