Because this is such an emotional issue, dealing with children and potentially some jobs and a lot of taxpayers money, perhaps it is time to consider bringing in an outside consulting firm, with no ties to the community. It appears that no matter what decision is made by the School Board, there will be a lot of money spent. An outside consulting firm, by looking only at the facts (past, present and projected enrollment) could give an unbiased, unemotional opinion. This may cost a lot of money to do, but it seems prudent considering the money that has been talked about spending. It is just a suggestion. But it certainly would remove the finger pointing going on and accusations of personal, selfish agendas. I suggest this as a way to take pressure off the School Board and to hopefully bring the comunity back together for the betterment of the entire city.

on another thread, someone posted the projected kindergarten enrollment for southdale at 90. what is the projected kindergarten enrollment for north cedar and how does that compare with what it is now? more or less? it seems to only make sense, in a dollar and cents sort of way, to enlarge and expand southdale, if that is where the growth is. i agree with kidscount idea of getting an outside firm to look at this. we seem to only get so much information. no wonder we are frustrated. good luck on your meeting tomorrow. i am sorry to say i wont be able to attend but will be anxious to know if you are able to come up with any other answers.

suggestion, I think anyone can start a new thread. You don't have to be a member. Try going into the board you want to start it in and at the top corner in the blue banner there should be a link that says "new thread" Try that.

kidscount is partially right. The time for an outside consulting firm was before the decision, though. The board members would have saved themself a lot of grief and done the community a great service by having that foresight. I worry that their adopted plan isn't going to work, though, so they could still get someone to help figure out where to go from here.

forthekids, if you look at the date when kidscount posted the suggestion about an ouside consulting firm, it was well before their decision was made. And even now, it isn't too late. I'm sure as enrollment is approaching they are getting a lot of information about the numbers of kids that are actually going to their newly districted school and how many are electing not to (private school, homeschool, open enrolling out, moving) When they see that this plan is not going to work, their only logical next step is to hire an outside consulting firm.

just for the record, please note the date of february 23 as the date of my posting about using an outside consulting firm.
in the school board minutes dated march 3 under item 4:
"Dr. Stoakes reported on the number of students needed to build a seventh attendance center and other facility bond time lines, other facility issues the district has, and the potential of having an outside consultant facilities study."
gee, do ya think dr. stoakes has been monitoring this message board?
