Wow. My husband and I are relatively new members of the community. After reading much of the posts on the message boards, I am ashamed. I am very sorry to see such a quality school district under such controversy. If this is the way the parents of our childrens' peers display themselves, I am afraid for the future.

New Guest, can you elaborate on what exactly you are so ashamed of. Which posts have you so concerned for the future. When I read these boards I am proud to see a community that cares so much about all their children's education and is willing to engage in some healthy debate. Having a difference of opinions is not something you should be ashamed of. And standing up for what I believe is right, or against something I believe is wrong is an example I'm proud to set for my children.
But, I too am concerned for the future. I'm concerned that if we continue to allow the current board to make decisions that are not in the best interest of our community without challenging those decisions, that this board may do some damage to our reputation of a great school district.

NewGuest, I agree that it is sad to see a school district in the midst of such controversy. However, much of this has been avoidable. Had the board listened to the recommendations of the committee it put together to study the boundary line issue, a lot of the controversy and hostility (not all by any means) would have been avoided. The board obviously had an agenda, and much of the recent drama is a result of that failed agenda.
As a parent of 2 young children, I too have serious concerns about the status of the Cedar Falls School District. I am a life-long resident of the area, but if major changes do not occur within the CF School District, beginning with a new board of ed., I will sadly be moving my family out of the district. That is something I never thought I would have to consider, but the developments of the past year have made that a very strong possibility. A school district that was formerly, I feel, a model district in the area has suffered significant setbacks in large part due to an ineffective administration/school board.
